Araliya - Your home away from home
Holiday home at the doorstep to the hill country of Sri Lanka
In the green hills of Kandy lies a quiet house we call "Araliya". Its tropical garden, spacious verandas and rooms are lovingly maintained by Ms. David, our housemaid. While we are out of the country, the house is yours for rent on a daily or monthly basis.
Facilities
The bungalow with generous verandas and a garden has 3 bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with two single beds and the third one with a single bed), thereby accommodating up to five guests. There is a sitting room, a dining area and two bathrooms - one with warm shower.
Your washing and other domestic tasks will be performed by the housemaid. She also prepares delicious Tamil, Sinhala and Western meals by seperate arrangement.
And for the global villager, a mobile internet modem belongs to the house. There is good GPRS reception in the whole premises. There is also a laptop with Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.4 installed.
Location
The village Piligalla is 1 km off Angunawala, a small town 2 km away from Peradeniya along the highway A5 (the road from Peradeniya towards Gampola and Nuwara Eliya). Distances to other destinations: Kandy 10 km, Gampola 11 km, Anuradhapura 80 km and Colombo 110 km.
The village itself lies next to paddy fields locked amoung the lush green hills of the central province. There are small boutiques and a post office counter in the village. For local type shopping you can go to Daulagala (2.5 km) or Peradeniya (3 km). You'll find Supermarkets in the Kandy-Peradeniya road (7 km) and in Kandy town itself (10 km).

- The University of Peradeniya
- The historical capital Kandy which is famous for its Temple of the Tooth and the festival 'Esala Perahera'
- The tempel triangle Lankatileka, Gadaladeniya and Embekke Devalaya

- Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage
- Dambulle cave temple
- The rock fortress Sigiriya
- Tee plantations and factories
- Hikes in the hills: Hantana, Galaha, Batalegala (also called Bible Rock)
- The ancient capitals Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa
