I installed Mandrake 8.1 from the box without ANY problems except Winmodem and the same Accelerated X problem. Anyway in order to ditch Windows once and for all (after peeling off the sticker and replacing with a nice penguin) the most difficult part was the DVD player. I tried Xine and Oms but both resulted in very jerky software decoding. After this I tried something less sophisticated (Ogle), this doesn't support hardware decoding yet so the software decoder seems more efficient. I had a similar experience going from one of my other boxes, a 600 Mhz Athalon to a 1.33Ghz. The 600 having a matrox G400 and the 1333 having a 128MB GForce2. The 1333 stopped smooth playback altogether compared with the 600. Back to the amilo, extremely good playback and sound but only under KDE using the esound driver. Gnome etc. refuse to give video out which Im sure is a driver problem. I presently have no TV to try the S3switch but will be trying as soon as I get one. Quake 3 absolutely will not run under linux without somehow getting the OpenGL to work. If you progress on the OpenGL support please let me know. Regards Stephen Lord, Paris
